OUR TEAM

As a trading company specializing in the life science research field, we, Nippon Genetics Co., Ltd., in hopes of maximizing our customers’ research achievements, introduce a wide range of products offered by suppliers from around the globe, renowned and prominent to advancing and innovative. Not only do we distribute these products, but we perform inspections and pre-release tests in our in-house lab and are constantly asking ourselves how we could better assist our customers’ needs. Our departments and teams are efficiently organized to be able to smoothly distribute our products, as well as to provide support for our customers and their research from various angles.

Currently I am working mainly on product inspection and product development at the laboratory. I am also involved in technical explanations, demonstrations, troubleshooting, handling of inquiries, and in-house product training.

  1. At what times do you experience job satisfaction or find joy in your work?
    Definitely those challenging, difficult jobs where I am able to wrack my brain and do better than expected. Recently, we were able to develop a product superior to a famous product with a 70% market share. I also experienced a lot of joy and satisfaction when a customer who had turned down a manufacturer eventually came to us for consultation, and we were able to give them what they wanted.
  2. What kind of people are your colleagues? Who is a person you respect?
    Lovely Crazy People!Lovely crazy people! [Laughs] I’d describe my colleagues as “lovable crazy people”. They’re the kind of people willing to work together toward a common vision and take on a challenge for the customer’s sake. They sometimes make unreasonable requests, but I consider them good friends. The person I respect is Steve Wozniak. I respect him for his technical genius as well as his originality and his kind, caring personality.
  3. What kind of company do you want the company to be into in the future?
    Many of the products we offer are from little known manufacturers or are new products, so it can be hard to gain peoples’ trust early on. I want people to be able to trust that the products we deem to be of high quality are high quality. In order to achieve this goal, I hope to expand the technical support team and share our expertise with new members.

Soon after joining the company, I was put in charge of imports and overseas manufacturer trouble reports. After several years, I was transferred to the marketing division and became involved in catalog production, and I am currently tasked with updating our website and launching new owned media, playing a daily game of catch-up to study and prepare for the reform of the company’s online presence.

  1. Tell us about your current work duties and the job satisfaction and joy you experience in your work.
    While my primary work duties include flier and catalog design and website updates, I am also exploring online marketing policy options. Because I work on materials that our customers see, I do my best to ensure that they are always simple and easy to understand, and nothing makes me happier than hearing from my customers that I’ve succeeded at this. When I read a sympathetic message in the front of the regularly published catalog UP!, I literally jumped for joy.
  2. What do you think are the best things about the company?
    I first joined the company in a part-time position. After seeing how hard my female seniors at the company were working, I became a full-time employee. The president and my superiors say that we shouldn’t worry about embarrassing ourselves at work, and they encourage me to try everything and learn through trial and error, providing supervision and complete support. The benefits are great too, and the company looks after both staff and their families, which gives me peace of mind.
  3. What kind of company do you hope to make the company into in the future?
    In order to be a one-of-a-kind specialist trading company with a purpose, I believe that we need to build a united team of employees who enjoy the cycle of challenge, failure, and growth, and who believe in our corporate philosophy. And part of my job is to train my juniors well! [Laughs]

  1. What do you think are the best things about the company? And at what times do you experience job satisfaction or find joy in your work?
    As an importer, we pride ourselves in our ability to provide our customers with a range of products and solutions. Because our company is also very open, we’re receptive to consultation and planning. We are therefore able to offer our customers a range of suggestions and provide assistance through our integrated support system. This gives me a sense of satisfaction and makes my work enjoyable.
  2. What kind of people are your colleagues? And what kind ofcompany do you hope to makethe company into in the future?
    Our highly experienced and trustworthy sales team offer me a lot of good advice. Everyone at the company, including the assistants who support the sales team, is bright and cheerful. I was soon able to adjust to the company after being transferred here a year ago. In the future, I hope to increase the number of manufacturers we work with both in Japan and abroad, and make Japan Genetics into a company that our customers know they can count on.
  3. Who is a person you respect? And what kind of growth do you hope to achieve in the future?
    The person I respect is my wife! While I’m often away on business trips, she always helps me prepare and keeps the house in order while I’m away. I’m really grateful to her. I feel that in the future, it will be more important to not just focus on ourselves, but to cooperate with others. I want to share my experiences, learn from others, and grow into a better person so that my wife will be able to respect me for my good judgment down the road.

Before joining the company, I was doing completely different work in the US. I was involved in the music industry, doing recording work, and made sushi at a small restaurant in the US. Right now I am in charge of building and maintaining the official website and internal system servers.

  1. What do you think are the best things about the company? And what kind of work method do you use at the company?
    Being able to challenge myself in a variety of ways is a plus. While I had no previous experience in programming, I started out by shadowing others, and have now become capable of doing more and more tasks on my own. Also, as I often drink coffee and tea during break times, I appreciate the company’s all-you-can-drink system. I also sometimes like to take a breather and play with my teddy bear̶people don’t mind if I do things like that.
  2. Explain your current work duties.
    I am primarily in charge of building and maintaining the official website and internal system servers, usually operating in the background. I have also been developing company tools that utilize machine learning. Because there is a constant need to capitalize on new technology in programming, I try to attend seminars and take specialized online courses whenever possible to improve my knowledge.
  3. At what times do you experience job satisfaction or find joy in your work? And what kind of challenges do you want to take on next?
    I felt a lot of satisfaction when I unveiled a new company tool, which was very positively received. It would be even better to see the new system being used to achieve concrete results like improved proceeds, but that’s something I look forward to seeing down the road. In order to develop machine learning tools in the future, I have decided to take a statistics examination. I really enjoy learning new things and improving my skills.

  1. At what times do you experience job satisfaction or find joy in your work?
    When a customer decides to go with one of our products after I’ve suggested it. While that makes me happy, on the other hand, when the customer decides against a product, I feel it is important to address the cause and think about what I can do better next time. I also experience satisfaction and joy when our products help support Japanese research and scientific development.
  2. What do you think are the best things about the company? And what kind of company do you hope to make the company into in the future?
    I think it’s great that the President is taking the lead and living by our motto, “Cheerful, fun, and energetic”. Also, everyone’s ideas are respected regardless of how long a person has been at the company, and several of my own suggestions have been implemented. I want the company to remain a cheerful, fun, and energetic place to work, and a place I can be proud to work at, years into the future. I also want our company to continue to be needed by our customers.
  3. What kind of growth do you hope to achieve in the future?
    I hope to become the kind of person who the company needs. In line with our corporate philosophy, I want to see things from others’ points of view rather than just my own, and to understand what others are thinking. I also want to have the human power required to deal with any situation. I want to implement our “cheerful, fun, and energetic” policy no matter what my age, and to become the kind of person who aims to provide value to others, company reputation aside.

  1. What kind of work environment does the company offer?
    Since I joined the company in 1996, the work environment has changed dramatically. After working at the company for 10 years, I took one year of maternity/childcare leave. After returning to work, I was on a short-term contract, but there were so many changes to the company structure and management, which took some getting used to. But above all else, I’m grateful for the company benefits. I have been able to return to work after taking maternity leave for a second time.
  2. What do you think are the best things about the company? What kind of company do you hope to make the company into in the future?
    It’s great that the company is evolving every day. It’s been 20 years since I joined the company, and in that time, our locations have increased and our product range expanded. We’ve launched a website and internal IT system, and it’s great to see things not only changing, but evolving. I hope that more and more customers will become aware of Japan Genetics in the future. I want us to be the kind of company that people can be glad to have discovered or dealt with.
  3. At what times do you experience job satisfaction or find joy in your work? And who is a person you respect?
    Definitely when I hear our customers’ words of appreciation. I’m happy to be able to help our customers, and that gives me satisfaction. While there are many people I respect, the person I personally respect the most is my mother. I also respect people who try their best regardless of their age, people with power, and people who have things I don’t have. When I see people working hard and staying positive, it makes me want to try my best too.

    They’re cheerful, fun, and energetic people. I can count on each of them. I’ve been able to succeed in my work thanks to them. Now I want to grow into the kind of person that other people can count on. The person I respect is my father. I respect my father’s way of thinking and his trust in those he works with. I am more aware than ever of the passion and hard work it must have taken to build the company from the ground up.
  2. What do you think are the best things about the company? And at what times do you experience job satisfaction?
    It’s the kind of company where, if you’re having trouble, someone will listen carefully and give you advice. I am able to listen to a wide range of opinions and present flexible proposals to customers. While some opinions can be critical, I’m happy when we’re able to put together a proposal that takes into account our customers’ research findings and at competitions and other events where customers tell me, “I’m really glad we went with your product!”
  3. What kind of challenges do you want to take on next? And what kind of growth do you hope to achieve in the future?
    The manufacturers we work with are counting on us to improve sales and achieve better results, and I want to do my very best. While my sales skills are still lacking, I want to do a lot of research and learn as much as I can for my customers’ sake, so that I can provide them with useful information. Additionally, I want to be able to take my proposals and negotiations that one step further.

  1. How has your previous careere xperience helped you in your current role? And what kind of challenges are you setting your self for the future?
    I previously worked in sales at a food manufacturer. While it’s a completely different field, because I understand the sales staff’s perspective, I am able to anticipate what kind of support might help the sales team in advance and provide suggestions. However, I still don’t have a very extensive knowledge of the products, so I’d like to actually touch and use the products more, as well as deepening my communication with the sales and technical staff.
  2. What kind of people are your colleagues? And what is your role in the team?
    Many of my colleagues have a strong sense of responsibility and ambition. Many of them are “cheerful, fun, and energetic” even outside of work and love to party. [Laughs] My role within the team is that of an assistant, but I think that this is a very important role. Because I often interact with customers, I have to always be aware of the fact that I’m representing the company, being polite at all times and doing all I can to improve customer satisfaction.
  3. Who do you respect, and why?
    I respect my seniors at the company! The company is so full of people I respect, I want to become more like them as soon as possible. Outside the company, I respect the famous announcer Asami Miura. It isn’t her robust appetite and slightly chubby figure that I respect, though. [Laughs] It isn’t only her likable personality that I respect her for, either, but the way she always works hard to improve herself.
